Teaching & Learning Conferences

Equity & Human Rights Conference

The Equity & Human Rights Conference captures the essence in CTA’s Mission Statement: To ensure that the dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected and to secure a more equitable and democratic society. This unique conference offers dynamic speakers, workshops and the Human Rights Awards to provide all CTA members with a greater understanding of the issues of diversity, equity and social justice. #CTAEHR

 

Good Teaching Conference (North + South)

The Good Teaching Conferences support excellent teaching and learning practices for classroom teachers via peer-to-peer instruction, diverse workshops focused on curriculum content areas for K-12 teachers and opportunities to network and share ideas with colleagues and experts in the education field. #CTAGTC

New Educator Weekend (North + South)

The New Educator Weekend (NEW) is a new conference for new CTA members in their first three years in the profession. The conference has everything that educators need to be successful in their first years of teaching, including sessions about classroom management, creating engaging classrooms, lesson plans and ideas, connecting with your union, student loan forgiveness information, member benefits, project grants and more. #CTANEW

 

Retired Conference

The CTA/NEA Retired Conference offers retired educators sessions on medicare, pensions, organization, social media, campaign activism, travel tips, computer security and more. Retired educators can network with other veteran educators and learn more about ways to get involved with CTA/NEA.

Summer Institute 

Each summer in late July, Summer Institute takes place on the campus of UCLA. Offering sessions in a variety of areas like Bargaining and Finance, Communications, Community Engagement, Instruction and Professional Development, Member Benefits and Member Engagement, CTA members can select strands based on interest and need. The strands help members develop and hone skills through engaging activities, applicable information, and network opportunities with other CTA leaders. #CTASI | Facebook Group

 

Issue-Based Conferences

Issues Conference

The Issues Conference brings together local leaders and activists to learn, discuss, and strategize to organize and increase our collective voice on the state and local issues that matter most in education. Sessions often include trending education advocacy issues, campaign information, tips for leadership and organizing, building a strong membership, union rights, working with new members and more. #CTAIC 

 

LGBTQ+ Issues Conferences

The LGBTQ+ Issues Conference addresses LGBTQ+ issues involving educators, students and the community, like LGBTQ+ history and curriculum, representation, gender and gender identity, non-binary and trans-identified students, creating safe and brave classrooms and schools, lesson plans, GSAs, being a better ally to LGBTQ+ students and educators, intersectionality and more. The conference is open to all CTA members and will serve as a venue to discuss a variety of subjects affecting the entire membership and California’s students. #CTALGBTQ

 

Leadership Conferences

Regional Conferences (I, II, III, IV)

The Regional Leadership Conferences help identify and develop local leaders with engaging workshops and networking opportunities. Open to all CTA members, regional conferences are a great way to meet other CTA members, learn more about CTA and get involved in your local chapter.

Presidents Conference

The Presidents Conference provides new and returning local CTA chapter presidents with skills needed to lead and best prepare their chapters for the future. The conference offers informative skill building sessions and opportunities to build lasting relationships with other presidents. Come to learn local chapter operations from CTA staff and local chapter leaders doing the work. #CTAPC 

 

Governance and Policy Conferences

NEA Representative Assembly

The NEA Representative Assembly is the largest democratic deliberative assembly in the world. The RA consists of nearly 8,000 delegates representing state and local affiliates, student members, retired members, and other segments of the united education profession. CTA sends more than 1,000 delegates to the NEA RA each summer. During this annual meeting, CTA members help set policy and chart the direction of NEA business through participation on various committees, constituencies, caucuses, and leadership groups. #NEARA

 

State Council of Education (Meets four times a year)

CTA’s top policy-making body is the State Council of Education. Meeting four times a year, the council’s nearly 800 delegates elect the three state-level CTA officers and the CTA Board of Directors. Council also sets forth CTA policy, develops legislation, and makes recommendations in general elections. #CTAStateCouncil

 

Affiliate Conferences

Community College Association Conferences (Fall, Winter, Spring)

The Community College Association (CCA) offers three distinct conferences per year in the Fall, Winter and Spring. The Fall Conference in October highlights membership accomplishments and keeping members engaged in the union, the Winter Conference in February focuses on collective bargaining, and the Spring Conference in April highlights advocacy. #CCA4Us
