CTA Issues Statement on Horrific Mass Shooting at Lunar New Year Celebration in Monterey Park

BURLINGAME – California Teachers Association President E. Toby Boyd issued the following statement today in the wake of another tragic mass shooting, one that has claimed at least 10 innocent lives in Monterey Park:

“Our hearts go out to the victims of Saturday night’s deadly shooting, their families, and a grieving Monterey Park Community. Lunar New Year should be a time of celebration and yet we are faced with another terrible reminder of the senseless gun violence that plagues our country and continues to take so many lives far too early.

“Educators stand in solidarity with victims and against all gun violence. Enough is enough.

“We demand that leaders in Washington D.C. take action and pass commonsense laws and provide resources that will help curb this epidemic of death and destruction.

“A common thread in many of these incidents is the national mental health crisis. We support increased mental health services so that tragedies like these can be prevented. Leaders must act now; life is too precious and the problem too pervasive for them to delay any longer.”

– E. Toby Boyd, CTA President
