CTA State Council of Education Elects Kindergarten Teacher Erika Jones for Secretary-Treasurer

BURLINGAME — Erika Jones, a Kindergarten teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, was elected as the next Secretary-Treasurer of the 310,000-member California Teachers Association (CTA) during the quarterly meeting of the State Council of Education Sunday. Jones, currently seated on the CTA Board of Directors, will begin her two-year term as an executive officer June 26, 2023.

“I am the product of public education and believe in our public schools. I am excited to lead in this new position and look forward to continuing the great legacy of CTA,” Jones said. “Our work toward social justice and racial equity has been transformational and I’m hopeful for the future as we continue to work together, and with our communities, for the sake of our students.”

State Council members also elected a new member to the CTA Board of Directors – Angela Der Ramos, a member of the Alisal Teachers Association, to fill an at-large position for an unexpired term ending June 25, 2023.

The CTA State Council of Education is comprised of 700 democratically elected educators from across the state and is the union’s top governing body.
