When I think about Teacher Appreciation Day, I really think about all of the things teachers do that they think go unseen. My son's first grade teacher really made a difference. He went above and beyond. When a parent tells me that I've made a difference in their child’s life, it means the world to me. When I think of my daughter's teachers, that's about as close to a superhero as you can be. Because the California Teachers Association knows quality public schools make a better California for all of us.

Durante los últimos dos años, cuando mi niño estaba deprimido porque él es un niño social, estar encerrado realmente le quitó bastante de su alegría, de su espontaneidad. Esta maestra tomaba el tiempo para quedarse con él uno a uno, marcarle por teléfono, para que él se sintiera parte de todavía una comunidad. Realmente fue muy bonito. Padres como yo sabemos que las escuelas públicas de calidad hacen una mejor California para todos.

Lo que yo he aprendido de los padres, y también los abuelos y los tíos, es que ellos siempre van a estar aquí, en esta comunidad, peleando por la educación de su familia. Y uno como maestro, esos estudiantes son nuestros niños, son de nuestra comunidad. Para mí como madre, es muy importante tener esa conexión con los maestros, saber que lo van a querer igual que yo como madre saber que juntos vamos a hacer que nuestros hijos logren mucho. Juntos construiremos un mejor California para todos.

Lo que yo he aprendido de los padres, y también los abuelos y los tíos, es que ellos siempre van a estar aquí, en esta comunidad, peleando por la educación de su familia. Y uno como maestro, esos estudiantes son nuestros niños, son de nuestra comunidad. Para mí como madre, es muy importante tener esa conexión con los maestros, saber que lo van a querer igual que yo como madre saber que juntos vamos a hacer que nuestros hijos logren mucho. Juntos construiremos un mejor California para todos.

The best thing about being back in the classroom is being able to see all their smiles, to see their joy. I can give them all a high fives…and fist bumps. The excitement involved when a child is… struggling with something and they finally get it… they get that aha moment… it’s like the light bulb moment…it’s magical. Those are the moments that make me tick, that make me want to keep teaching. Kind of reminds us why we're all in teaching to begin with. Because educators like me know quality public schools…make a better California…for all of us.
