Our students and communities need empowered educators to lead our unions in the fight for the schools we all need and deserve. This conference will provide critical skill building sessions on organizing, racial equity & social justice unionism, political organizing, and many other topics all focused on building union power to ensure student success and strong public schools.

Treasurers’ Workshop
Region I local chapter treasurers, join us on September 13, 2024 at the Doubletree San Jose for our annual Region I Treasurers’ Workshop prior to the Region I Leadership Conference. Topics to be covered include:
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Business Practices and Policies
- Budgeting and Treasurer’s Report
- PERB, IRS, and Other Regulatory Requirements

Featured Presenters
David B. Goldberg
CTA President
An educator for more than 25 years, CTA President David Goldberg has spent most of his career as a bilingual teacher at Murchison Elementary in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). In addition to English, he is fluent in both Spanish and sign language. Goldberg has a long history of union activism. He previously served as CTA Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer for four years each, as well as two three-year terms on the CTA Board of Directors.
Helena Donato-Sapp
Activist, Educator, Speaker
Helena Donato-Sapp believes in the power of youth voice and uses her own in the work of justice and equity. She is an accomplished activist and educator internationally recognized for her work on disability justice, anti-bullying, black girlhood, and decolonizing education. She is a published author, exhibited artist, working poet, and sought-after keynote speaker who has been featured on the Disney Channel and in Discovery Education. Helena is newly confirmed to the Commission for Women and Girls. Helena’s awards include the Global Youth Award for Educational Leadership, the 2023-24 Heumann-Armstrong Award, and the Yes I Can Academic Award, among others.

Credits
Professional Growth Hours: Professional Growth credit will be available at no cost for CTA members. Confirmation of professional growth hours will be emailed shortly after the conference.
University Credit: The CTA 2023-2024 University Credit Program is a benefit to members attending CTA Conferences during the 2024-2025 school year. CTA Members, through attending in-person or watching CTA Virtual Pass sessions, will be given the opportunity to accumulate the professional growth hours needed to qualify for university credit units with CSU, Chico. As a benefit to members, CTA will cover the $85/unit cost for up to SIX of the (9) university credit units available. The professional growth hours can be accumulated by attending conferences live and/or by watching recordings. By attending this conference in person, members will earn 15 hours of professional growth.
