Randa Wahbe and Jon Ausubel were recently elected president and vice president,
respectively, of the Community College Assn. Their terms run for two years. Wahbe is a dedicated educator, union leader and advocate for faculty equity. A full-time English professor at Cypress College since 2001, she has held numerous leadership roles on campus as well as within CCA and CTA; among them: She has served as an elected delegate to CTA State Council and the NEA Representative Assembly.

“As president, I’m focused on centering equity in everything we do, deepening member engagement, and advocating powerfully in Sacramento to ensure decisions being made are reflective of the lived realities on our campuses and the needs of our students,” Wahbe said.

Born and raised in California as the eldest child of immigrants, Wahbe holds BAs in Anthropology and English, an MA in Comparative Literature, and an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction.

Ausubel has been a full-time English instructor at Chaffey College since 1998. He has served as Distance Education coordinator for the district and as director of the Milliken Planetarium. For the Chaffey College Faculty Assn., he has served as president, chief negotiator, PAC chair, membership chair, school rep, and continues to serve as grievance officer.

He is keenly interested in part-time issues and is devoting this part of his career to improving the working conditions of part-time faculty at Chaffey and statewide. Born and raised on Long Island, he holds a BA in English with minors in philosophy and astrophysics; an MA in English and a Ph.D. in American Literature and Semiotics.
