During last week’s Democratic presidential candidate debates, not a single question was asked of the hopefuls about public education. This won’t be a repeat occurrence on July 5 from noon-2 p.m. PDT when 10 of the top candidates visit the NEA Representative Assembly in Houston—because this time, educators are asking the questions (and it could be you).

Join NEA President Lily Eskelsen García as she hosts the Strong Public Schools 2020 Presidential Forum (broadcast live on Facebook), featuring candidates former Vice President Joe Biden, former HUD Secretary Julián Castro, Mayor Bill DeBlasio, Sen. Kamala Harris, Gov. Jay Inslee, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Gov. Jay Inslee, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. With educators poised to play a major role in choosing the next president of the United States, it’s time to add our voices to the discussion and ask these candidates what they’re going to do to fight alongside educators for the public schools all students deserve.

“With the 2020 Election already underway, it’s so important for educators from all across the country to join the conversation and share what matters to you, your students and your community,” Eskelsen García said. “If you had the opportunity to ask the presidential candidates one question, what would it be?”

Stand up, be heard and help inform voters by posting a video with your question for the candidates (instructions and details here). All questions at the forum will come directly from NEA members and the most impactful videos will be used during the presidential interview process.

Candidates will appear on stage one-by-one for a seated conversation with President Eskelsen Garcia. Each will answer questions from NEA members about their plans for public education, including providing opportunity for all students, attracting and retaining educators to the profession, and listening to the voices of the professionals who guide, support and nurture students every day in America’s classrooms.
