Statement From CTA President E. Toby Boyd Regarding Resignation of Betsy DeVos

BURLINGAME — CTA President E. Toby Boyd released the following statement in response to the resignation of Betsy DeVos:

“For four years, the now former Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, has pushed her own school privatization agenda and run away from her sworn responsibility to ensure equitable access to public education for all students and promote educational excellence throughout the nation.

“Devos’ resignation yesterday, although welcomed, comes way too late and does nothing for the children and educators across America. It also comes in the midst of a global pandemic when educators are all working harder than ever to keep our students engaged in learning.  We do not accept that this was a values-based decision on her part, but rather her continuing to run from responsibility and being forced to vote on any invocation of the 25th Amendment.

“To protect our democracy and ensure the safety of our nation, CTA joins the National Education Association in calling for the immediate removal of Donald Trump from the office of the President.”
