San Ramon Valley Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement

After Months of Negotiations, Students Will See Improved Learning Conditions

SAN RAMON – The San Ramon Valley Education Association (SRVEA) reached a tentative agreement with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) in negotiations for the 2019-2022 collective bargaining agreement. Educators in San Ramon had been working toward a contract that will improve learning and working conditions in addition to helping the district attract and retain the educators San Ramon Valley’s students need.

“We are grateful for the hard work of our negotiations team while navigating through this arduous process, and grateful for our educators, our members, for their tireless efforts in persevering on behalf of our students,” said Ann Katzburg, SRVEA President. “Our students will have smaller class sizes, better support, and access to the services they deserve.”

Funding is always a major factor in the negotiations process.

“This settlement represents progress, but our work is far from over. We are committed to working on bringing more funding to our schools through the Schools and Communities First initiative, which we are working to put on the November ballot. California ranks 39th in the nation in per-pupil expenditures and that is not acceptable when we live in the 5th largest economy in the world. We need to reclaim $12 billion annually, close corporate loopholes, and level the playing field for the sake of our schools and communities. Our students’ education is our focus today and will be at the forefront of everything we do in the future. I am proud of the work we did in collaboration with SRVUSD to accomplish this tentative agreement.”

This was no easy feat. It was through the courageous work of educators and parents who came together to do what is best for the students. Because of this victory, the Town Hall scheduled for March 12 is cancelled.
