CTA Stands in Solidarity with Oakland Educators for One-Day Strike Calling for the Schools Students Deserve

BURLINGAME — The following statement was issued by California Teachers Association President and kindergarten teacher E. Toby Boyd, standing in solidarity with the Oakland Education Association on their one-day strike calling for the schools students deserve:

“On behalf of the 310,000-member California Teachers Association, we are proud to stand in solidarity with educators, students and their families as the nearly 3,000 members of the Oakland Education Association are on strike today calling for the schools students deserve. For far too long, Oakland educators have faced adversity in dealing with the Oakland Unified School District’s (OUSD) constant disregard and performative actions towards black and brown students. Closing schools hurts students, hurts families, and hurts neighborhoods. That is not acceptable! Going on strike is a difficult decision and always the last resort. Oakland educators are rising in unity with families, students and community supporters in calling on the OUSD school board and administrators to provide students with equitably resourced and accessible public schools they need and deserve.”
