California Teachers Association Joins in Solidarity with Oakland Education Association on Unfair Labor Practice Strike Calling for Safe, Stable and Racially-Just Schools Students Deserve

BURLINGAME — The following statement is issued by E. Toby Boyd, kindergarten educator and California Teachers Association (CTA) president, who joins in solidarity with the Oakland Education Association (OEA) on an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike for safe, stable and racially-just schools our students deserve:

“On behalf of the 310,000-member California Teachers Association, we are proud to be in solidarity with the 3,000 members of the Oakland Education Association (OEA). For far too long, Oakland educators have faced adversity in dealing with the Oakland Unified School District’s (OUSD) constant bad-faith behavior at the bargaining table. Educators are fed up and have been working tirelessly fighting for all of Oakland’s students. Oakland educators have risen above to show OUSD that enough is enough, and we will remain behind them 100% in the fight for a livable wage, improved services for students with disabilities, additional mental health supports for students still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and investment in Historically Black Community Schools.”
