Community College Faculty Dismayed by Senseless Decision to Rescind DACA

Statement by CCA President Lynette Nyaggah

The Community College Association, representing the faculty in the California Community Colleges system, joins with all educators, K-16, in condemning the senseless decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  The following is a statement by CCA President Lynette Nyaggah:

“We are dismayed by the decision of the Department of Justice rescinding the DACA program.  We see the benefits of this program daily in our classrooms, where students who were brought to the United States as children strive for a better future for themselves and their families.

“It is our hope that Congress will step up and pass immigration reform that gives these students permanent status as immigrants.  This country has always benefited from the contributions of our new immigrants, and Dreamers, who are highly motivated to succeed and will ultimately make significant contributions to society, following in the footsteps of all the immigrants who came to the New World.

“We will continue to educate all who come to our community colleges, working to make dreams of a better life come true. We will share resources and offer opportunities so all our students can succeed.”
