he California Teachers Association (CTA), the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the California Labor Federation issued this statement Wednesday following months of deliberations regarding legislation that would make common-sense changes to laws governing charter schools—laws that have negatively impacted students in neighborhood public schools.

Our students don’t have part-time needs. So, they absolutely cannot have part-time solutions. One of changes that we need is smaller class sizes. We need a lot more school nurses…a lot more school counselors. Counselors provide that social, emotional core…that’s needed. Schools need to be safe places…for our children to learn. Every student has the right to quality education. No matter what neighborhood you live in.

You know what my favorite part really is when I greet students when they come in. Because I know what great things…we have in store in the classroom. When they come into my classroom, they're able to really get in touch with…who they are. My favorite part of teaching has…always been this opportunity to make a difference.
