Our Union Fights Back

On Thursday, Gov. Newsom urged California lawmakers to support a special election ballot measure this November that aims to redraw the state’s congressional map. This initiative is a direct response to the Trump administration’s redistricting efforts in Texas, which are designed to help Republicans maintain control of the House majority after the 2026 midterm elections.

Erika Jones, the Secretary-Treasurer of the California Teachers Association and an elementary school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, spoke at the event:

“Our union stands in full support of this ballot initiative. We are ready to do whatever it takes to stop this power grab and fight back against any and all attacks on our democracy, on our students and on public education.”
