Valentine’s Day might be the day prior, but supporters across the state and beyond will still be sending love and support to Oakland educators and students by wearing #RedForEd as part of CTA’s Statewide Day of Action on Friday.

The show of support comes on the same day that the state mediator’s non-binding fact-finding report will be released, the last step before Oakland Education Association (OEA) can legally strike. Earlier this month, OEA educators showed they are united in their commitment to lower class sizes, more support for students and a living wage for educators in Oakland public schools by overwhelmingly voting to authorize a strike, if necessary.

Send some #RedForEd love to OEA educators on Feb. 15 by:

  • Wearing RED to school. Be sure to join a walk-in if one is planned at your school. Flyers and resources for walk-ins are available here.
  • Getting social! Take a selfie (groupies are great, too) and post to social media with a message of support for Oakland educators. Use the hashtags #Unite4OaklandKids, #WeAreOEA, #WeAreCTA and #RedForEd. No pic? No problem! Shareable graphics and ideas for posts on social media are available in our #RedForEd Digital Toolkit
  • Visiting CTA’s RedForEd Oakland page for more information on how to donate to their strike fund and #BreadForEd, their fund for meals for students and educators in the event of a strike. There are also other ways to support Oakland educators, including sponsoring a striking school and joining OEA on the picket lines.

Let’s stand together for Oakland educators as they put it all on the line for their students and the future of Oakland schools. Follow OEA on Facebook and Twitter for ongoing updates and for more information on how you can support their righteous struggle.
