Getting down to factsCalifornia schools do as well as or better than the national average in educating students, yet most entering students start with less education than most other children in American schools. As California kids are forced to play catch-up, some never do.

California schools are on the right track, according to the detailed research project on California schools, Getting Down to Facts II. Findings on Early Childhood Education include the need for greater commitment to equity by increasing access to programs for working-class parents whose children are least likely to access paid preschool options.
