South.County.ICE.Response

On Nov. 7, South County San Diego teachers are holding an additional informational meeting to educate their members about migrant family rights in anticipation of increased contact between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and those communities with higher populations of undocumented workers.

Information will help members and their students and parents to understand and articulate their rights, regardless of immigration status.

South County Teachers United will confront difficult questions about the role of the educator and paraeducator in these turbulent times. Organizers will consider:

  • What are the implications of being an official Sanctuary State?
  • What is appropriate to discuss in the classroom?
  • What actions can educators take while at school and on the job?
  • What should educators do in the event of a student or parent detention?
  • How do you create a Site Crisis Plan, and what should it include?
  • What resources are available for teachers, parents, and students?

The sponsoring chapter, National City Elementary Teachers Association, has announced that all CTA members are welcome to attend the conference while seats still remain.
