In a selfless act of kindness, the Fresno Teachers Association distributed 500 meals to families living near Addams Elementary. For Fresno educators, the well-being of their communities during COVID-19 means more than just teaching. It also means supporting local businesses and helping to provide meals to families negatively impacted by this health crisis.

Last week’s meals were prepared by Quesadilla Gorilla, and there was plenty to go around! In addition to the meals provided at Addams Elementary, FTA partnered with local non-profit, Live Again Fresno, to distribute meals to families living in the Parkway Drive area. For everyone’s safety, families living in the Addams Elementary area were asked to participate in the giveaway by driving up to the distribution area. Walk-up participants made sure to maintain social distancing guidelines.

“This is a tough time for everyone. If we are able to take this anxiety off the plate of our families and students, then we know they can shift their focus over to other things that matter and are important to their household,” said Manuel Bonilla, President of FTA.

This was the first of many meal distributions planned over the next few weeks. FTA plans on feeding 500 people per week in each of Fresno Unified School District’s regions. FTA has already pledged at least $10,000 to this effort. Community members can help by donating via the following platforms:
