California educators endorsed pro-public education candidates in four key races in the June Primary Election and took positions on seven ballot initiatives headed to voters in November, after a vote by CTA State Council of Education last weekend.

More than 600 democratically elected educators from across the state followed CTA’s member-driven recommendation process, prior to voting to support the following candidates:

Ken Cooley, Assembly District 7
Matt Haney, Assembly District 17
Eric Swalwell, Congressional District 13
Ro Khanna, Congressional District 17

“We are proud to announce educators’ support for these candidates who share our values of providing California students with the equitable and quality public education they need and deserve,” said CTA President E. Toby Boyd. “Educators follow a thorough, democratic and member-driven recommendation process because of the impact the work of elected officials has on teaching and learning. These are often difficult decisions but based on a candidate’s proven commitment in standing with students and educators.”

CTA State Council also took the following positions on November ballot measures:

Art & Music in Schools – Support
Living Wage Act – Support
Plastic Waste Reduction – Support
Stop Big Tobacco Referendum – Support
Online & Mobile Sports Betting – Oppose
Pandemic Warning System – Oppose
Clean Cars & Air Act – Oppose

“Educators took positions on ballot measures that reflect our values,” Boyd said. “We urge Californians to join us in supporting these candidates and educators’ positions this upcoming election.”
