While the future of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is now in the hands of the Supreme Court of the United States, all current or past Dreamers can apply to renew their DACA status now through June 30, 2020.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is again accepting DACA renewal applications from anyone who currently has or had DACA. Anyone who has not previously had DACA is ineligible to apply. Between Oct. 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020, the DACA protections of 232,000 people will expire. Approximately one-third have already applied for renewal, but as of last month more than 156,000 had yet to do so.

NEA has compiled information and resources on renewing DACA and where to find local assistance for help in filing renewals. The USCIS DACA Renewal Landing Page is here.

CTA President E. Toby Boyd said CTA educators stand with DACA recipients, including Vicente Rodriguez, a teacher from San Bernardino, who attended the #HomeIsHere rally outside the Supreme Court while the case was heard.

“Stripping away DACA will rob our school districts of qualified educators, who have taught and trained every generation of trailblazers,” Boyd said. “DACA is essential to keep our classrooms afloat—it gives our students a reason to thrive!”

Take the pledge today to support the nearly 800,000 Dreamers nationwide, and stand with educators across the country to demand a path forward that embraces immigrants and the diversity they bring; that understands and encourages their important contributions to our culture, society, and economy; and that rejects any policy that divides communities and weakens us.
