Many of Clovis Unified School District’s more than 2,100 educators were students in the district before returning there as professionals. For three Association of Clovis Educators (ACE) organizing committee members, teaching and learning in Clovis is a multigenerational family affair.

Kristin Heimerdinger: Attended Weldon Elementary, Clark Intermediate and Clovis High School, graduating in 1988. She has taught social science at Buchanan High for 29 years. Her mother taught third and fourth grade in Clovis for 28 years. Both of her sons attended CUSD schools from kindergarten through high school, graduating from Buchanan.

Tamara Soemali: Graduated Clovis High in 1983 and has served as a school psychologist for 26 years. Her mother taught kindergarten in CUSD for 33 years. Her son is also a CUSD graduate.

Amy Kilburn: Attended Tarpey Elementary, Kastner Intermediate and Buchanan High School, graduating in 1995. She has taught in CUSD for 21 years. Her mother attended Clovis schools and later taught elementary school and worked as a staff developer in curriculum and instruction at CUSD. Kilburn’s brother and sister-in-law are also Clovis teachers.
