UTLA announced late this morning that the looming strike date is being pushed from tomorrow to Jan. 14. The decision to postpone was made as UTLA waited on a court to decide on yet another L.A. Unified lawsuit that sought to delay the strike date until Jan. 14. Rather than let confusion reign, UTLA officials preemptively postponed the strike for clarity and to allow members, parents  and communities to plan.

“Although we believe we would ultimately prevail in court, for our members, our students, parents and the community, absent an agreement we will plan to strike on Monday,” said UTLA President Alex Caputo-Pearl.

UTLA will hold a Facebook live press briefing with Caputo-Pearl after today’s negotiations, around 5 p.m.

This change in the strike date will have no impact on CTA’s statewide #RedForEd Day of Action still planned for this Friday, Jan. 11 in support of both UTLA and Oakland Education Association (OEA). OEA  members are in a similar contract fight and will be holding a massive rally this Saturday.
