Roses are red, violets are blue. This Valentine’s Day, show Oakland teachers your love is true—by donating to the Oakland Education Association (OEA) strike fund!

With the non-binding fact-finding report due tomorrow, the 3,000 educators of OEA are preparing to strike to defend their students and Oakland public schools. This brave act comes at great personal sacrifice—while income stops during a strike, bills and other living expenses do not.

By supporting the OEA fund, you will be directly helping striking Oakland educators who are putting it all on the line for their students. This fund, called the Membership Assistance Fund, provides financial help to teachers in need during a strike.

More than $17,000 has been donated in the 18 days since the fundraiser was created on GoFundMe.com. Yesterday, the strike fund got a surprise $1,000 donation—from the GoFundMe team! Every month, GoFundMe donates $100,000 to causes nominated by their employees, who showed some impressive solidarity in their support of Oakland educators.

Join GoFundMe, Oakland parents and other supporters, including comedian Rob Delaney and Oakland musician and director Boots Riley, in showing heart for Oakland teachers through the strike fund and #BreadForEd, a campaign that has raised nearly $40,000 to feed Oakland students and educators during a strike.

Keep the Valentine love coming tomorrow on the Statewide #RedForEd Day of Action! Wear red in solidarity with OEA as they fight for the soul of Oakland public schools. Let’s show these dedicated educators that they have an entire union of not-so-secret admirers.

Stay updated on how you can support OEA’s fight for students and schools on the #RedForEd Oakland page, or by following OEA on Facebook and Twitter.
