Supporters across California and beyond went #RedForEd today as part of CTA’s Day of Action in solidarity with Oakland educators as they stand together for lower class sizes, more student support and a living wage for teachers.

#RedForEd photos started posting on social media from the East Coast before the sun rose over the Golden State. From CTA members and fellow educators to parents and students, to our sisters and brothers from other unions, the Day of Action was a resounding statement that supporters of public education across the country are standing with Oakland Education Association (OEA) as they rise to defend Oakland public schools and fight for the resources their students need.

Late this afternoon, OEA said it will be making a major announcement tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. about the potential strike (watch it live on the OEA Facebook page and on Twitter).

“We have been bargaining with @OUSDNews for over a year and a half, and we thank all of the students, parents, and community near and far who have been standing with us,” OEA tweeted. “Join us tomorrow for an important announcement about our potential strike.”

Showing that the eyes of the nation are truly on these brave educators and their struggle to save Oakland public schools, the news of tomorrow’s announcement was covered by the Washington Post and Associated Press within an hour of its release.

How can you help? The #RedForEd Oakland page has information, resources and opportunities to support OEA as they fight for Oakland kids. Donate today to the OEA strike fund, #BreadForEd to feed students and educators or download graphics to share on social media to show you stand with Oakland educators.
