CCA conferences are growing in popularity, and the winter conference was no exception. Advanced bargaining strategies, cyber issues for part-time faculty, creating social media shareables and equity in the classroom were a few of the many workshops members took at the CCA Winter Conference in San Diego Feb. 7-9. Other topics included:
- Bargaining compensation for extra duties
- Bargaining overview for newbies
- Elections training
- Equity on campus
- Persuasive communication and managing the conversation
- Sunshine to settlement: engaging members in an effective bargaining campaign
- Power systems and unionism
- Financial narratives: Telling a winning story to mobilize and win
Members networked, shared resources and discovered new friendships. Dozens of members CCA members also attended the California Leadership Academy, which provides resources, skill-building and opportunities for those interested in leadership positions within CCA and CTA during this conference. And, three-member teams learned strategy and best practices on how to enforce negotiated agreements and uphold faculty rights under the negotiated agreement during the Grievance Academy, a new resource for CCA activists.
Plan now to attend the CCA Spring Conference April 24-26 at the Hilton Irvine Orange County Airport. In addition to excellent professional development opportunities, conference highlights include the WHO (We Honor Ours) Awards banquet.
