Leading the way to improve learning and teaching conditions
Margie Granado, a kindergarten teacher in the city of Commerce at Bandini Elementary in the Montebello Unified School District, is serving her second term on the Board, which expires June 25, 2022.
She grew up in Montebello, graduated from Montebello schools, and began teaching in her district in 1986. Her District L represents educators in the Los Angeles County area.
“I have loved coming to work every day. The students are wonderful and the families and communities that I serve are extraordinary.”
Granado is a past president of the Montebello Teachers Association and also served as vice president and bargaining chair. She served six years on the NEA Board of Directors. Granado chaired several CTA committees dealing with such issues as human rights and student scholarships. She also served for 13 years (with one break) as a delegate to the CTA State Council of Education, the union’s top governing body.
Her activism runs deep. She served for six years as a California representative on the National Education Association’s Board of Directors.
She holds a bachelor’s in liberal studies and a master’s in early childhood education from California State University, Long Beach.
