Leading the way to improve learning and teaching conditions
Jerry Eaton, a veteran high school teacher in the Travis Unified School District in Solano County and former school board member in Vacaville Unified, is serving his second term on the CTA Board of Directors, which expires on June 25, 2020.
A longtime union activist with 14 years of overall teaching experience, Eaton has been active with CTA at the state and local levels. He served for five years as a local delegate to the CTA State Council of Education, the union’s top governing body. For the Travis Unified Teachers Association, he served as vice president, political action committee chair and local school site representative, among other duties.
To devote more time to the thousands of CTA members he represents over a wide area spanning many counties, Eaton resigned his seat on the Vacaville Unified school board after being elected to the CTA Board in June 2014. He now represents teachers on the CTA Board in nine counties: San Francisco, Napa, Lake, Solano, Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte. Eaton, a San Francisco native, is a Spanish and French language instructor. He has also taught English to English learners, and high school English. He holds a bachelor’s in economics from California State University-Stanislaus and a master’s in French from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Before his teaching career, he had a successful career as a financial advisor.
