Sacramento City Teachers Association went on strike for one day to tell the district to honor the contract they agreed on.

Los maestros son los que pasan más tiempo en el salón con sus estudiantes y de verdad entienden las necesidades que tienen los estudiantes. Más de 30,000 maestros participan en una masiva huelga. Miles de ellos marcharon en medio de una fuerte tormenta invernal. Para tener clases pequeñas y acceso a los maestros. Necesitamos enfermeras y consejeros que los puedan apoyar. Todo estudiante tiene el derecho al estudio de alta calidad. Por que sabemos que las escuelas públicas de alta calidad hacen un California mejor.

When I got into teaching, it was this idea of really transforming our schools. One of my biggest responsibilities as a teacher is to serve as an advocate for my kids. Hundreds of teachers are hitting the picket lines…thousands gathered here. We need smaller class sizes. More counselors and more nurses. We have to be able to invest in our young people. Every student has a right to a quality education. No matter what neighborhood you live in. Our students don’t have part-time needs so they can’t have part-time solutions. Because we know quality public schools make a better California for all of us.

Great Teaching Is Never Forgotten” is the theme for the 2019 Day of the Teacher celebration. Amid the local events statewide to honor and thank educators, the California Teachers Association is asking educators and the public to share memorable lessons learned from their teachers using the hashtags #DayoftheTeacher and #GreatTeaching.
