During wildfire events, check with the district office to see if the association can help with communication in any way. Local associations often have personal emails and cell numbers for members and can readily access members via their association listserv or social media network. Offer to assist the District in contacting members, particularly regarding school closing, reopening, or relocation.

The CTA Disaster Relief Fund is administered by the CTA FACT Foundation and can assist members who have lost their primary residence or experience damage to their classroom. Grant applications are available at www.CTAMemberBenefits.org/drf .

In the event of a member death, you may be called upon to assist the family of the member. The CTA Member Benefits Department has a Death and Dismemberment Plan for Members. Contact your local CTA office or local UniServ staff for assistance.

A local association may also ask for assistance from the CTA Traumatic Event Assistance and Management Cadre through their local UniServ staff person. CTA TEAM members assist local CTA staff and associations with links to needed resources and information regarding response to the trauma associated with natural disasters.
