Section 1.

This organization shall be known as the CTA Aspiring Educators (CTA AE).

Section 1.

The purpose of this association shall be to offer the tools necessary to foster interest in the education profession by providing pre-professionals information about their rights, responsibilities, and vital support systems necessary to become a committed part of the education profession. CTA Aspiring Educators believes that in order to do these things listed, we must actively fight for racial and social justice by naming and working to dismantle White Supremacy Culture where it exists in and outside of our organization.

Section 1.

Membership qualifications shall be specified in the Bylaws of the California Teachers Association Aspiring Educators.

Section 2.

Each member shall be a student member of the National Education Association Aspiring Educators.

Section 1.

Regular members shall be organized into chapters at any California college, university, or community college as provided for in the Bylaws of this Association.

Section 2.

Campus chapters shall be assigned to a CTA geographic Service Center Council for purposes of liaison with CTA’s members.

The California Teachers Association Aspiring Educators shall be governed by a Representative Assembly.

Section 2.

The Representative Assembly shall include delegates elected by the members of each chapter of the Association. Delegates from campuses without a recognized chapter may attend on a first come, first serve, basis.

  • Delegates shall be current members in good standing of CTA Aspiring Educators / NEA Aspiring Educators.
  • Each chapter/campus shall have a minimum of one delegate.
  • Delegates allotted to each chapter/campus shall be determined by its number of members as follows:
    Chapters/campuses with 20 through 39 members shall have 2 delegates,
    Chapters/campuses with 40 through 59 members shall have 3 delegates,
    Chapters/campuses with 60 through 79 members shall have 4 delegates,
    Chapters/campuses with 80 through 99 members shall have 5 delegates,
    Chapters/campuses with 100 through 119 members shall have 6 delegates,
    ad infinitum for each twenty (20) members or major fraction thereof.

Section 3.

Each delegate to the Representative Assembly shall have one vote in the transaction of business matters before the Assembly.

Section 4.

The delegates shall elect a President, Executive Vice President, Northern Regional Vice President, Central Regional Vice President, Southern Regional Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, 3 Communications Editors, Ethnic Minority Representative, Social Justice Advocate.

Section 5.

The Representative Assembly shall meet annually in the spring.

Section 6.

A majority of the registered delegates present and voting at the Representative Assembly shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of the business of the Representative Assembly of the California Teachers Association Aspiring Educators.

Section 1.

An amendment to the Constitution may be proposed by a petition of a majority of members in a chapter or by a majority of the CTA AE Executive Board.

Section 2.

Amendments proposed by a chapter must be submitted to the CTA AE office no less than sixty (60) days prior to the meeting of the Representative Assembly.

Section 3.

Chapters shall be notified of any proposed amendment(s) at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting of the Representative Assembly.

Section 4.

An amendment shall be adopted by a two-thirds (2/3rds) vote of the Representative Assembly.

Section 5.

Any amendment receiving the necessary number of votes, and the approval of the Board of Directors of the California Teachers Association, immediately takes effect as a part of this Constitution.
