Each year in January we commemorate the life of the iconic leader and civil rights activist, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday is January 15th.

It is a time for the nation to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought. A time to remember his fight for the freedom, equality and dignity of all races and peoples. A time to remember the message of change through nonviolence.  A time to introduce activities promoting peace – and celebrating the life of Dr. King – into the classroom, and a time to SERVE – on January 17th – in the name of this great leader.

In 1968, after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., CTA and Student CTA (SCTA) established a living memorial in the form of a scholarship fund to aide members of ethnic minorities in preparing for teaching-related careers in public education.
