NO on 98: The Hidden Agendas Scheme

Prop. 98 is a deceptive scheme full of hidden agendas, funded by wealthy landlords that attacks renters, our public schools, the environment and our economy.

It harms public education:

  • The new laws contained in this measure would make it much more difficult to build new schools and expand existing ones to relieve overcrowded classrooms.
  • This measure changes land use and property law and makes the process of acquiring land and building schools more costly, increases schools’ liability, and prevents school districts from requiring developers to pay their fair share for schools in new housing developments.

It harms the environment:

  • This measure guts environmental protections, like laws we need to combat global warming, and protect our land, air, water supply and coasts. Every leading environmental organization in California opposes 98.

It harms renters:

  • This proposition would eliminate rent control in California. Teachers, low-income families, seniors and students all benefit from stable, affordable rents. This initiative would impose even more financial challenges to our most vulnerable citizens.
  • This measure eliminates important renter protections, like laws protecting renters against unfair evictions.

Prop. 98 is opposed by groups like:  AARP, League of Women Voters of California, California Professional Firefighters, California Chamber of Commerce, California Teachers Association, Coalition to Protect California Renters, Association of California Water Agencies, Western Growers Association, and National Wildlife Federation

YES on 99: The Homeowner’s Protection Act

Prop. 99 is powerful, honest reform that would protect our homes from eminent domain abuse. It contains no hidden agendas and no adverse consequences.

  • This measure is the proper way to protect home-owners’ rights and property—without hurting schools and students.
  • Prop. 99 would prohibit government from taking our homes to transfer to a private developer.
  • Prop. 99 protects homeowners from eminent domain, with no hidden provisions.

Prop. 99 is supported by groups like:
League of California Homeowners, California Alliance for Retired Americans, California Police Chiefs Association, League of Women Voters of California, National Coalition of Hispanic Organizations, and California Teachers Association
