AEW 2017

American Education Week provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in the lives of California's students. CTA will join NEA to celebrate the 96th American Education Week. This year's theme is Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility, and is reflected in special observances each day of the weeklong celebration.

  • Monday, November 13: Kickoff Day - Across the nation, Americans will sponsor special events and activities to thank educators and celebrate public education.
  • Tuesday, November 14: Parents - Schools invited parents into the classroom to experience a day in the life of students.
  • Wednesday, November 15: Education Support Professionals Day - Schools and communities will honor school support staff - bus drivers, nurses, secretaries, custodians and others - for their commitment to students.
  • Thursday, November 16: Educator for a Day - Community leaders, elected officials, and local celebrities/notables will be invited to teach a lesson or visit a class and connect with pubic school students and teachers.
  • Friday, November 17: Substitute Educators Day - This day honors the educators who are called upon to replace regularly employed teachers.
