SACRAMENTO – Gov. Jerry Brown delivered his state of the state address today where he highlighted California’s comeback and commitment to pay down the state’s debts while asking lawmakers to remember the lessons of history. CTA President Dean E. Vogel issued the following statement:
“The message delivered today in the governor’s state of the state address was clear. We must stay the course. At a time we most needed to act, California voters passed Prop. 30. The state is now in its second year of repayments to our schools after many years of devastating cuts. Now, it is essential that we stay that course and continue to rebuild our schools, colleges and local communities. There are major changes before us in public education. The Local Control Funding Formula is a monumental shift on how we operate our schools and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards dramatically changes how we teach our children. The governor reminded us today the LCFF is about local control so all students can have a fair shot at success and that’s why it’s so important that Prop. 30 funds go to local schools as intended. Our kids are counting on it.”
