Rudy Jimenez Ortiz, SCTA President, welcomed the participants to the SCTA Fall Leadership Conference, November 8-9, 2003, Woodland Hills. The theme for this year's event was, Right Here! Right Now!

There was a variety of free materials and resources as well as raffle prizes and SCTA merchandise for sale.

During the General Session, participants were asked to brainstorm the components of a great public school.


Groups then shared their ideas and were challenged to begin the process of creating great public schools, Right Here! Right Now!


A variety of workshops were available to choose from including: Learning the Nuts and Bolts of Chapter Newsletters; Creating Effective Chapters; Attacks on Public Education; Teacher Panel; Let's Celebrate Diversity-Walk in My Shoes; Hints for a Successful Job Search; Reducing the Risk: Teen Suicide; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Youth: Breaking the Silence; Cultural Diversity in the Classroom; and Addressing the Needs of California's Diverse Student Population


Students representing 42 campuses were in attendance including San Diego State University.

CTA President, Barbara Kerr (center) was the guest speaker. She shared inspring stories from her career in education and challenged students to create their own.

Dancers from Norte Vista High School provided the evening entertainment. Their teacher, Sharron Lewis-Campbell, shared the importance of arts education and learning from your students.
