Planning Calendar
August/September
Send contact information for chapter officers and advisors to the SCTA office.
Chapter officers and advisors - plan meetings, events and activities for the year. Check the SCTA website for the calendar of events and conferences.
Apply for NEA Student Program grants to fund chapter activities.
Contact your local CTA Service Center Council (SCC) office and ask to be included on the mailing list for meetings, trainings and events.
Make sure that 2 - 3 chapter leaders are planning to attend the SCTA Fall Leadership Conference in November. Look for registration materials.
Submit article about chapter activities to the SCTA Communications Editor for inclusion in the October issue of the "I Choose to Teach" newsletter.
Plan to attend the CTA Regional Conference in your area. Regional conferences are usually held in the fall. See the Calendar of Events for dates.
October
Update your chapter's website with upcoming events. If you don't have a website, the SCTA office can post information on a web page linked with the SCTA website.
Send an updated chapter constitution to the SCTA office. This is required in order for your chapter to be recognized and to receive rebate checks.
CTA will begin sending rebate checks to official SCTA chapters. Each chapter receives a rebate of $5 per student member. Checks are sent to the chapter advisor and made payable to the SCTA Chapter. These funds may be used for local chapter activities. As membership increases, additional rebate checks may be sent October through February.
Applications for the L. Gordon Bittle Memorial Scholarship for SCTA are made available.
November
Attend the SCTA Fall Leadership Conference. Bring back materials to share with your members.
Submit article about chapter activities to the SCTA Communications Editor for inclusion in the December issue of the "I Choose to Teach" newsletter.
December
Encourage all members to register to attend the SCTA Regional Conference in your area. The North and South Regional Conferences are usually scheduled in February.
Declaration of Candidacy forms for the NEA Representative Assembly are made available on the last page of the December issues of the
California Educator
magazine. Students who are interested in attending both the National Education Association Student Program (NEA-SP) Summer Leadership Conference and the NEA Representative Assembly as voting delegates must submit this form to have their name included on the ballot for delegates. The two conferences are held in June/July.
January
Chapter Presidents will receive a mailing about the SCTA Representative Assembly (April) outlining voting procedures and deadlines for determining delegates/alternates. Chapters are required to hold elections to determine delegates/alternates to the RA. Delegates vote for statewide officers and changes to the SCTA constitution on behalf of their chapter.
Make sure members have registered to attend the SCTA Regional Conference in your area.
Applications for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship are made available.

February
Attend the SCTA Regional Conference for your area. Share materials with your members.
Hold elections for delegates and alternates to attend the SCTA Representative Assembly (April).
Look for registration forms for the SCTA RA.
Prepare to submit nomination forms for your chapter, members and/or advisors in the various SCTA Award categories. Make sure everyone receives recognition for their work!
L. Gordon Bittle Memorial Scholarship applications are due.
March
Attend the CTA Equity & Human Rights Conference. Bring back materials to share with other members.
Submit award nomination forms for your chapter, members and/or advisors for both SCTA awards and NEA-SP awards.
March 15 is the end of the National Education Association (NEA) membership year. The statewide SCTA membership on this date is used to determine representation at the NEA Student Program Summer Leadership Conference (June), NEA Representative Assembly (July).
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship applications are due.
Submit article about chapter activities to the SCTA Communications Editor for inclusion in the April issue of the "I Choose to Teach" newsletter.
April
Delegates attend the SCTA Representative Assembly. Delegates vote on changes to the SCTA constitution and statewide officers. SCTA awards are presented at a special banquet.
May/June/July
Hold officer elections for next year. Begin planning for next year.
Submit article about chapter activities to the SCTA Communications Editor for inclusion in the June and August issues of the "I Choose to Teach" newsletter.
Send contact information for officers/advisors to the SCTA office.
Hold end-of-the-year party, social event, or awards banquet for members.
The NEA-SP Summer Leadership Conference is held the last week of June. NEA student awards are presented at the Honors Banquet.
The NEA Representative Assembly is held the first week of July.
