Students Affected by Tennessee Tornados Need Help
As you know, Union University was hard hit by last week's tornado. We have more than 80 student members on that campus, many of whom are without possessions and yet are continuing with student teaching. Below is a little information about their situation. If your state or any of your campuses would like to make a contribution to their cause, please contact the advisor, Dr. Carrie Whaley (her info is below) or Nicki Fields, the state student organizer:

Good afternoon,
I have spoken with Dr. Carrie Whaley at Union University. Right now they are still out of school, the expected return date for students is February 20, 2008. Many of the dorms were destroyed so many students are without housing and will be classes resume. Those students who are student teaching this semester had to return to the classroom today. I have had several calls asking how we can help the STEA members and fellow education students at Union. Dr. Whaley stated that many students lost their possessions in the tornado. She suggested that gift cards would be appropriate so that students could replace necessities. (such as Target gift cards) Dr. Whaley has agreed to be the contact person for anyone wishing to donate to the STEA members at Union. You can mail items to her at the following address:
Union University, Att. Dr. Carrie Whaley, 1050 Union University Drive, Jackson, TN 38305-3691, cwhaley@uu.edu. Thank you for your concern and your help for our fellow students.
