Ten CTA members have been awarded grants in CTA’s GLBT Safety in Schools Grant and Scholarship program. The new program, available to members of CTA and Student CTA, awards grants to support projects and presentations that promote understanding and respect for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, and scholarships for members enrolled in a teaching/counseling credential program. Up to 10 grants or scholarships of up to $500 are awarded each year.
The 2008 recipients are: Helen L. Arrington, San Jose Teachers Association; Pennie Baxter, Chico Unified Teachers Association; Barbara Blinick, United Educators of San Francisco; Kurt Dearie, Carlsbad Unified Teachers Association; Lindsey Garza-Johanson, Alvord Educators Association; Alicia Hardy, Oakland Education Association; Jerome Mullady, Burbank Teachers Association; Cheryl Nelson, United Educators of San Francisco; Ariane Peixoto, United Educators of San Francisco; and Carla Schick, Hayward Education Association.
