MLK Memorial Scholarships awarded, $1,000 to $4,000

Volume 12, Issue 8 - May 2008

Six CTA members, three Student CTA members, and 12 dependent children of CTA members have been selected for awards of $1,000 to $4,000 under CTA’s 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship program for ethnic minority members, funded entirely by voluntary contributions.

CTA members receiving scholarships are: Margarita Cabalza, Salinas Elementary Teachers Council; Jeffrey Gray, Association of Sonoma County Office of Education; Curie Hu, Hacienda-La Puente Teachers Association; Kendra Mieux, Ontario- Montclair Teachers Association; Benjamin Quiñones Jr., Association of Colton Educators; and Virender Singh, Alameda Education Association.

Student CTA members receiving scholarships are: Scott Carrico, CSU Stanislaus; Angela Giberti, UC Santa Barbara; and Justina Rachel Montez, San Francisco State University.

Dependent children receiving scholarships are: Bobbie Arterberry III, son of Bobbie Arterberry Jr., NEA-Jurupa; Jessica Brazynetz, daughter of Jacqueline Brazynetz, Associated Chino Teachers; Julia Coleman, daughter of Janet Coleman, NEA -Jurupa; Austin Delana, son of Rudy Delana, Torrance Teachers Association; David Giberti, son of Gerard Charles Giberti, Montebello Teachers Association; Leon Martinez, son of Michelle F. Martinez, Torrance Teachers Association; Jessica McMillen, daughter of Sylvia McMillen, Merced UHSD Teachers Association; Kevin Moultrie, son of Jacquelyn Moultrie, Fairfield- Suisun Unified Teachers Association; Brandon Sanchez, son of Tim Sanchez, Atwater Elementary Teachers Association; Natasha Seabrook, daughter of Monique Seabrook, Vista Teachers Association; Annalisa Willis, daughter of Tyra J. Willis, Association of Cypress Teachers; and Kimiko Yama, daughter of Jeanette Yama, Cupertino Education Association.
