Proposed State Budget Cuts Signal Disaster Ahead

For K-12 schools, the cuts amount to $7.2 billion. A cut of this magnitude would be disastrous for our students' future. These cuts are equivalent to:

  • Reducing per-student funding by almost $1,200
  • Increasing class sizes by over 50%
  • Laying off 160,000 teachers
  • Shutting down schools for 25 days
  • Laying off 180,000 bus drivers, janitors, classroom aides and other education support professionals
  • Cutting more than $31,500 per classroom
