Proposed State Budget Cuts Signal Disaster Ahead
For K-12 schools, the cuts amount to $7.2 billion. A cut of this magnitude would be disastrous for our students' future. These cuts are equivalent to:
- Reducing per-student funding by almost $1,200
- Increasing class sizes by over 50%
- Laying off 160,000 teachers
- Shutting down schools for 25 days
- Laying off 180,000 bus drivers, janitors, classroom aides and other education support professionals
- Cutting more than $31,500 per classroom
