CTA’s Sanchez included on top Latino leaders list

La Opiniόn, a Spanish-language newspaper in Los Angeles, has honored CTA Vice President David A. Sanchez as one of the state’s top 80 Latino “leaders of the future.”

Sanchez shares the honor with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor Executive Secretary-Treasurer Maria Elena Durazo, and other California union, political, business, show business and sports figures.

In its profile of Sanchez, the newspaper wrote: “Being a teacher, being in the classroom and fighting for a good education, all of that, David Sanchez carries in his blood.”

“This is a huge honor, but it really speaks more about the influence of CTA and its 340,000 members,” said Sanchez, who is serving his fourth year as CTA vice president. “Working together, our teachers and parents are making a vital difference every day in the education of our Latino children and all of our kids across the state.”

The unranked list of honorees and their profiles are posted on the newspaper’s website [www.laopinion.com/lideresdelfuturo]. The paper chose to salute 80 leaders in celebration of its 80 years of publishing.
