CTA launches new website

The Web address is the same — www.cta.org — but the CTA website has a brandnew look and a new area that is only for CTA members.

“This is an exciting step toward the future,” says CTA Board member Larry Allen, who serves as the liaison to CTA’s Website Advisory Committee. “The new site will help us share important information with our members and eventually build an online educator community.”

The new design will make it easier for users to navigate the website and find the information they need. Parents and community members will find tips to help their children succeed in school along with information about where CTA stands on important education issues.

For CTA members, the simple registration process for the members-only area — known as My CTA — begins with the ID number found on the CTA membership card. Members of United Teachers Los Angeles will use their employee number found on the UTLA membership card.

Inside MyCTA, members will be able to participate in online polls, register for CTA conferences, apply for CTA scholarships, and get discounts on school supplies.

As one of its many services, CTA Member Benefits is introducing SmileMakers, an online school supply store where CTA members can get discounts on such items as stickers, pencils, student activity games and classroom decorations. There’s also a new partnership with Barnes & Noble, giving members a 5 percent discount off books ordered online. CTA Member Benefits also provides financial and health service programs, including home loans for new teachers.

In addition, members will find information about professional development, legal services, bargaining assistance and CTA political campaigns in MyCTA.

All this information is just one click away at www.cta.org.
