...Staples has extended its recycle for Education program through the end of 2005. In 18 months, the program has raised more than $321,000 for the CTA Institute for Teaching, helping to support the Schools of Greatest Need Initiative. Staples will continue to donate $1 for every laser or inkjet cartridge recycled in its stores....

...Education experts convened at EdSource's 2005 Forum, "Shaking Up the Status Quo: The Movement to Transform High School," to debate potential reforms. One panel challenged the widely-held view that four-year college readiness should be the only goal of a high school education. Robert Schwartz of Harvard University and others discussed the merits of a college-prep curriculum versus "multiple pathways," including more rigorous career education.
