CTA's Human Rights Awards luncheon will be the highlight of the Equity and Human Rights Conference March 4-6 in Santa Clara. Individuals who have distinguished themselves in the advancement and protection of the human and civil rights of educators and students will be honored.
The conference theme is Standards for Our Nation. Workshops will include such topics as Test Preparation Strategies for Minorities and Disadvantaged Youth; Breaking the Glass Ceiling; The Silent Minority in the Classroom; Closing the Achievement Gap; Journey to a Hate-Free Millennium; Religion in the Classroom; Sexual Harassment — When Bullying Becomes Illegal; Promoting Diversity and Reducing Racism; Males as Positive Forces in Public Education; and more.
CTA President Barbara E. Kerr will be the keynote speaker at the Human Rights Awards luncheon on Saturday.
The conference, which will be held at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, starts with a 7 p.m. opening session and dinner on Friday and ends with brunch on Sunday. The registration fee of $150 includes conference materials, dinner on Friday, breakfast and the award luncheon on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday. Discounted fees are available for chapter Human Rights and Women's Issues Contacts ($75) and Student CTA members ($25). Fees are waived for Service Center Council Human Rights and Women's Issues Contacts, as well as minority at-large representatives. The fee for nonmembers is $450.
