CTA/NEA Rural Issues Conference brings rural educators together

The 2005 CTA/NEA Rural Issues Conference, which is designed with the rural educator in mind, will be held Jan. 14-16 in Las Vegas.

Teachers can choose from sessions on such topics as health care in rural areas, retirement issues, high-stakes testing, school district budgets, county office issues, legal issues and education reform.

University and professional growth credit will be available.

Held at The Orleans Hotel and Casino, the conference begins with a "showcase" of programs and services available through CTA starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a 6 p.m. reception, and concludes at noon on Sunday.

The registration fee is $100 per participant for chapters with 100 or fewer members and $125 per participant for chapters with 101 or more members. It includes a light meal at the Friday reception, buffet breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday.

First-time participants may qualify for reimbursement of transportation expenses. (See registration brochure for details.)

The cut-off date for getting the conference hotel rate of $89 (plus tax) is Dec. 14 (be sure to request the Rural Issues Conference rate). Housing arrangements should be made with the hotel at (800) 675-3267.
