"A child's first teachers are family members," says CTA President Barbara E. Kerr in one of the campaign's radio spots. "Your attitude toward learning will affect how well your kids do in school. If you show that you care how well they do, your children will try harder."
In keeping with CTA's commitment to spreading the collaboration message to diverse communities, the radio spots are airing on 19 general interest and 21 ethnic radio stations - including Spanish and Asian stations. Print ads will also appear in 41 ethnic newspapers, including African American, Spanish, Native American, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino and Thai publications.
"Al empezar este nuevo año escolar, colaboremos todos para darles a nuestros hijos la mejor oportunidad de triunfar," CTA Vice President David A. Sanchez, who is bilingual, says in one spot airing on Spanish radio. "As we start the new school year, let's work together to give our children the best opportunity to succeed."
The ads, which also feature local teachers, highlight tips for families:
- Attend parent conferences with the child's teachers;
- Set a fixed time and pick a quiet place for homework;
- Keep close track of a child's progress in school;
- Show enthusiasm for learning.

"Students of all ages and grade levels," Kerr concludes in one ad, "do better when their family is involved."
