More than 200 CTA members and staff attended a two-day intensive training session recently on how to work more effectively with state and federal lawmakers.
The Legislative and Congressional Contact training brought CTA representatives from around the state together with experts based in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., to master techniques for helping persuade members of the California Legislature and Congress to support CTA positions on key education and finance issues.
Participants received briefings on such issues as school funding and the state budget. They also had the opportunity for hands-on design of strategies to involve more CTA members in local lobbying efforts.
Upon returning to their chapters, participants will be helping to form quick response teams of CTA members willing to contact their lawmakers on short notice and to become ongoing information sources on education for state and federal lawmakers.
