Author Ruby Payne will headline CTA's Urban Issues Conference

Ruby K. Payne, author of A Framework for Understanding Poverty , will share her insights at CTA's Urban Issues Conference Feb. 27-29 in San Francisco.

 

Dr. Payne's keynote address will focus on helping educators and other professionals work effectively with children and adults from backgrounds of poverty.

 

Her book teaches the hidden rules of economic class and includes strategies for overcoming the obstacles poverty can create in all types of interaction.

 

Following her Saturday morning presentation, conference participants will move into breakout sessions on "Understanding Poverty."

 

The conference registration fee of $85 includes a light meal at the Friday reception; a buffet breakfast and lunch on Saturday; a buffet breakfast on Sunday; and a copy of Payne's book.

CTA/NEA will reimburse the transportation costs for five members from each UniServ unit or large local. Reimbursement will be based on the most economical round-trip coach airfare, purchased at least 21 days in advance; mileage will be reimbursed at the rate of 40 cents per mile, not to exceed the cost of the most economical coach round-trip airfare. Individuals attending the full conference are eligible to receive 12 hours of professional growth credit at a cost of $40 per semester unit.
