Ads stress family involvement

Families that respect learning and care about how children do in school give students an advantage in the classroom and in life, says CTA President Barbara E. Kerr in a back-to-school ad campaign.

"Just teaching your children that you believe school is important gives them a head start on the road to success."

The spots are part of CTA's ongoing family involvement campaign and will air on 39 radio stations, half of them targeting Spanish, African American and Asian audiences. Print ads will appear in 22 ethnic newspapers.

The 60-second radio spots, which also feature CTA Vice President David A. Sanchez, are part of CTA's effort to make families partners in public education.

"As this school year begins, let's open the lines of communication to help kids succeed," says Sanchez in a spot airing on 12 Spanish-language stations.

The ads will air for three weeks on 19 radio stations, while those targeting ethnic audiences will air a total of six weeks on 20 additional stations.

The ethnic media ads were made possible by a $400,000 grant from the NEA Media Fund.
