Scholastic Inc. has launched 100 Words Kids Need to Read, a series of workbooks for grades 1, 2 and 3.
The books focus on learning and mastering the 100 most important "sight words" for each grade level. Sight words are non-decodable words essential to establishing reading fluency. Although it is often difficult to sound them out, learning to recognize these words by sight is important for a child's success in reading. The books help children move rapidly from visual recognition to mastery of key vocabularies.
